Gillams man arrested for prohibited driving and is facing multiple charges

A 47-year-old man from Gillams was caught driving while prohibited and is facing charges for refusing to comply with alcohol demand on October 13, 2020.

Early morning on Wednesday, RCMP Traffic Services West was on patrol and observed a man, known to police to be prohibited from driving Canada wide, operating a vehicle in Corner Brook. Police initiated a traffic stop. The driver was confirmed to be prohibited and had no insurance or registration on his vehicle. He was arrested for driving while prohibited.

Police also observed open alcohol in the vehicle and the driver was suspected to be impaired by alcohol. The man refused a breathalyzer demand and is being held for a bail hearing to face criminal charges,

  • Refusing to comply with a breathalyzer demand
  • Operating a vehicle while prohibited
  • Failing to comply with a court release order

In addition to the charges, the man was issued tickets for operating a vehicle without insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle, and operating a vehicle with open liquor. The vehicle was seized and impounded.
