Whitehorse, Yukon

News release

On August 19, 2020 at 7:30 am, Carmacks RCMP responded to a call of a single vehicle collision at kilometre 277 of the North Klondike Highway.

Upon attendance, officers found a four-door sedan on its roof in the middle of the highway, in a gravel area under construction. The driver, a 22-year-old woman, was deceased on scene. A 20-year-old female passenger was trapped in the vehicle and was subsequently removed by RCMP and Paramedics. She sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital, along with another passenger, a 48-year-old man, who sustained minor injuries.

An RCMP Collision Analyst and the Yukon Coroner attended the scene. Preliminary investigation has determined that the vehicle hit the right shoulder of the road and rolled several times until it came to rest on its roof. The highway was closed for approximately 2 hours and opened to single lane traffic until the scene investigation was completed at approximately 1:30 pm when the highway was fully re-opened.

The Carmacks RCMP and Yukon Coroner's Service are continuing with their investigations.
