Elk Point RCMP locate stolen vehicle and arrests four suspects

On Dec. 2, 2020 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Elk Point RCMP were completing a warrant roundup for accused person(s) in Frog Lake, when a stolen truck was located with occupants inside.

With assistance from the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit, Lakeland Crime Reduction Unit, RCMP Air Services, Police Dog Services (PDS) and multiple detachments in the surrounding area, the truck was followed.

A tire deflation device was deployed after the vehicle failed to stop near Cold Lake, Alta. and two females and a male were arrested without incident while a fourth male youth occupant fled the scene on foot. The youth was later apprehended by PDS and suffered minor injuries as a result of interactions with police and the dog. He was taken to hospital by ambulance and released back into police custody a short time later.

During the pursuit, several items were thrown from the truck, which resulted in the windshield of a police vehicle being damaged.

The truck that was recovered was previously reported stolen from Lloydminster, Alta., on Dec.1, 2020.

A 22-year-old female of Fishing Lake, Alta., a 25-year-old female of Fishing Lake, Alta., an 18-year-old male of Kehewin Cree Nation, Alta., and a 16-year-old male youth of Elizabeth Metis Settlement, Alta., were charged with various offences including:

  • Assaulting a police officer
  • Flight from police
  • Possession of stolen property over $5000
  • Mischief

The 18-year-old male was remanded into custody following a judicial hearing and is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Dec. 17, 2020.

After judicial hearings, 22-year-old female and the 25-year-old female were released and both are scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Jan. 7, 2020.

The 16-year-old youth who cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is scheduled to appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court on Dec. 16, 2020.
