On the morning of Tuesday, November 10, Kings District RCMP & Provincial Highway Safety conducted speed enforcement on Route #1 in Mt. Mellick , PEI.

In total, 20 summary offence tickets were issued ranging from speeding, expired drivers licence and registration. The highest speed was 145km/hr in the posted speed limit of 90 km/hr.

During the enforcement initiative, an RCMP officer in an unmarked car, saw a car travelling southbound on Route #1 travel through the red flashing lights of two school buses. Both buses were stopped at the same residence to pick up children heading to different schools. The driver of the car was stopped a short distance away and issued summary offence ticket for Passing a School Bus with Red Lights Flashing.

Kings RCMP, along with policing partners, will continue their joint efforts to make Island roads safer by stopping drivers of vehicles driving at excessive speeds, refusing to stop for school busses and continually monitoring for proper documentation and impaired drivers.

Take your time, drive responsibly and use due care and attention - it's your responsibility.
