September 18, 2020
Cardigan, Prince Edward Island

News release

On Thursday, September 17th, at just after 8:00 a.m., an Eastern District school bus had its red lights flashing and side stop signs activated on Route #4 in Cardigan.

A 43 year-old man from the Central Kings area proceeded to drive through despite the red lights of the school bus flashing and activated sign. A witness who was stopped behind the bus was the initial complainant to police who were able to obtain a licence plate number and description of the vehicle. Statements were taken from the witness and the bus driver who had also witnessed the incident.

The driver was issued a $1,000.00 fine. Thankfully it was just a fine, not injuring or killing a child.

RCMP remind drivers to be extra diligent in or around school buses and school zones. It should also be noted any subsequent infractions of passing a school bus can result in a fine of up to $5,000.00
