Deer Lake RCMP investigates suspected drug-impaired driver

A 19-year-old Deer Lake man is under investigation for drug-impaired driving following a traffic stop on March 7, 2020.

Deer Lake RCMP received information of a possible impaired driver, located the described vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested for drug-impaired driving. He was transported to the detachment and completed a drug recognition evaluation. Police are waiting for the results of the testing to determine if the man will be charged with drug-impaired driving.

The man was found in possession of cocaine now faces charges of possession of a controlled substance. He was released and is set to attend court at a later date.

The investigation is continuing.
