On Tuesday, June 2, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Canora RCMP responded to the report of a house fire in the town of Canora.

Upon police arrival, Canora RCMP observed the residence with a broken front window with flames and smoke visible inside. Officers gained entry into the front door of the residence and called into the residence, but observed no signs of any occupants. Canora RCMP was unable to enter the residence due to the heavy smoke. Canora Fire Department worked to extinguish the fire.

Canora RCMP received information from several members of the public who identified an adult male setting the house on fire and fled the scene in a Jeep Liberty before police arrival.

At approximately 9:20 p.m., Kamsack RCMP were able to locate and arrest the adult male responsible for the fire.

No one was injured as a result of this incident.

30-year-old Levi Bobyk has been charged with Arson to Property under Sec. 434 of the Criminal Code. Bobyk is scheduled to make his second appearance in Yorkton Provincial Court on June 8, 2020.

Canora RCMP would like to thank all witnesses who provided information to assist with the investigation. Canora RCMP would also like to thank the Kamsack RCMP, Saskatchewan Fire Commission, and The Canora Fire Department for their assistance with the investigation.
