Big River RCMP seek assistance from the public in locating an SUV involved in a drive-by shooting

This morning, on Nov. 3, 2020, at approximately 2 a.m., Big River RCMP received the report of two suspicious vehicles attempting to enter the community of the Big River First Nation.

Initial investigation by police revealed one of the occupants from an SUV discharged a firearm towards the community Check Point on the Big River First Nation. The vehicle was described as a dark-coloured SUV with damage to the front of the vehicle, carrying between five to six occupants believed to be all dressed in black clothing. At this time, officers believe the occupants are still in possession of at least one firearm.

The second vehicle was believed to be a silver-coloured car. It is unknown how many occupants were in this vehicle. This vehicle was not believed to be involved in the shooting.

There were no injuries to individuals at the Check Point or reports of any damage on the property as a result of the shooting.

Big River RCMP continue to investigate this incident with assistance from Shellbrook and Spiritwood RCMP Detachments.

If you have seen the dark coloured SUV or the silver car, do not approach the vehicles. Call your local police service immediately.
