In late Aug. 2020, Beaverlodge RCMP were made aware of concerns by community members surrounding drug use, trafficking, an overdose and drug-related property crimes that were occurring in the community of Horse Lake.
As a result, Beaverlodge RCMP, with the assistance of the Beaverlodge County Enhanced Unit and the Western Alberta District (WAD) Rural Crime Reduction Unit (RCRU), conducted a comprehensive investigation.
On Sept. 7, 2020, search warrants were obtained and executed on two residences located in Horse Lake with the assistance of Beaverlodge RCMP, WAD RCRU, Beaverlodge Enhanced Unit, and RCMP Police Dog Service. The following items were seized as a result of the searches: a quantity of cash, fentanyl, methadone, GHB/rohypnol, rifle, crossbow and tools.
A 31-year-old male of Horse Lake is charged with:
- Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking (x2)
- Possession of weapon contrary to order (x3)
- Possession of stolen property under $5,000
Following a judicial hearing, he was released on bail with conditions to attend court on Sept. 30, 2020, in Grande Prairie Provincial Court.
As this matter is now before the courts, no further updates are anticipated.
