Bay St. George RCMP traffic stop leads to arrest and charges of wanted man

A 32-year-old Shallop Cove man was arrested following a traffic stop conducted by Bay St. George RCMP on June 30, 2020, when an officer discovered the driver was at large on a warrant of arrest for failing to attend court.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., an officer with Bay St. George RCMP was on patrol in Stephenville Crossing and observed a vehicle with expired registration. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was found to be driving while prohibited and without insurance or registration. The driver was also wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant for failing to attend court on a previous charge of driving while prohibited.

He was arrested and ticketed for driving without insurance or registration. The man now faces criminal charges of driving while prohibited and failure to attend court. In consultation with the Provincial Crown Attorney's Office, he was released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date. The vehicle was seized and impounded.
