Bay St. George RCMP responds to house fire, one man charged

Bay St. George RCMP charged a 63-year-old man under the Forestry Act following a report of a house fire in Piccadilly.

On April 25, 2020, at approximately 4:00 p.m., police attended the scene and found that a house that was vacant and condemned was on fire. Although the fire was unintentionally set, it originated from an intentionally set grass fire which got out of control.

The man was charged with burning without a permit.

RCMP NL reminds the public of the current fire ban, which includes grass fires, that is in effect for all of Newfoundland and Labrador. The minimum fine for violating the ban is $1000. Details can be found here:
