News release

Bay St. George RCMP has removed three impaired drivers from the roadway this week following patrols in Kippens and St. George's.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on January 29, 2020, officers stopped a vehicle on Kippens Road in Kippens. The driver, a 47-year-old man from Port au Port, provided a roadside breath test which was above the provincial limit for alcohol. The man's licence was suspended and his vehicle was seized and impounded.

Around 12:40 a.m. this morning, while patrolling in St. George's, officers noticed skid marks in the fresh snow leading towards the Provincial Wharf. Police located two vehicles, an SUV and an ATV, parked on the wharf. Both drivers, a 41-year-old Flat Bay woman and 29-year-old St. George's man, were suspected to be impaired. The two failed a roadside breath test, were arrested for impaired driving, and transported back to the detachment where they both provided breath samples that were over twice the legal limit. Their licences were suspended and vehicles seized. Both were released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
