Bay St. George RCMP continues to conduct traffic stops, seize vehicles and charge drivers

Following traffic stops over the past weekend, Bay St George RCMP seized three vehicles and charged the drivers with various offences under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act and Cannabis Control Act.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on May 9, while patrolling Piccadilly, Bay St. George RCMP observed an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) driving on the roadway. Police conducted a traffic stop with the quad and the driver, a 34-year-old Piccadilly man, who showed signs of impairment. He failed a roadside sobriety test and was transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were more than the legal limit. Police seized and impounded the ATV. The man now faces charges of impaired driving and was released to appear in court at a later date.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on May 10, while patrolling Barachois Brook, Bay St. George RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Main Street. The driver, a 28-year-old Barachois Brook man, was driving without insurance and without registration. The vehicle was seized and impounded and tickets were issued. In addition, the driver was found to have three outstanding warrants of arrest for impaired driving and failing to appear in court. He was arrested and later released. He is set to appear in court at a later date.

At approximately 11:55 p.m. on May 10, while patrolling Stephenville, Bay St. George RCMP observed a vehicle swerving on Queen Street. A traffic stop was attempted, but the driver failed to stop for police. The vehicle eventually pulled over and a man exited the passenger side door and fled on foot. The 33-year-old Mattis Point man was located and ticketed for having open liquor in the vehicle. The driver, a 30-year-old Kippens woman, was arrested for flight from police and ticketed for various traffic infractions, including driving without due care and attention, having no registration, no insurance and failing to stop at a stop sign. She was also ticketed under the Cannabis Control Act for possessing more than 30 grams of dried cannabis in the vehicle. The vehicle was seized and impounded. She was later released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date to face criminal charges of flight from police.
