Bay St. George RCMP arrests two drivers for impaired driving over the weekend

Two drivers were arrested by Bay St. George RCMP this past weekend for impaired driving, one involving alcohol and the other is suspected to be impaired by a drug.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 25, 2020, Bay St. George RCMP responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver on Main Street in Stephenville. Officers located the described vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 38-year-old Corner Brook man, displayed signs of impairment and failed a roadside breath test. He was arrested for impaired driving, transported to the detachment and provided breath samples more than twice the legal limit. The man's licence was suspended and his vehicle was seized and impounded. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on April 26, 2020, Bay St. George RCMP responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver on West Street in Stephenville. Officers located the described vehicle and the driver displayed signs of drug impairment. The 30-year-old St. George's man performed poorly on roadside sobriety tests. He was arrested and transported to the detachment where he completed a drug recognition evaluation. A urine sample was collected from the driver for drug analysis. The investigation is continuing. Officers are waiting for the test results to determine if charges of impaired driving are appropriate.
