A 71-year-old Bay Roberts man was arrested for impaired driving on a popular walking trail near French's Cove in Bay Roberts on September 16, 2020.

At approximately 12:45 p.m., Bay Roberts RCMP received an anonymous report of a van that was stuck off of the walking trail. The caller, who suspected the driver was impaired, reported that the driver and the passenger were looking for help to get the vehicle back on the trail.

Police attended the scene and located the vehicle, just off the trail. The driver showed gross signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested for impaired driving. He was transported to the detachment and provided breath samples that were nearly three times the legal limit.

The man was released from custody with pending charges for impaired driving. He is scheduled to attend court at a later date. Police seized and impounded the van and suspended the man's driver's licence.
