News release

Due to COVID-19, Jennifer Kee, Community Engagement and Outreach Specialist, has adopted a virtual way to conduct home visits. As part of the Project Lock Up initiative Jennifer Kee has been visiting the properties of owners who have been repeat victims of property crime.

On our social media accounts we are inviting all of our followers to send us a direct message with questions or photos of their properties. Jennifer Kee will review the messages and provide personalized advice and tips for the property owners. The property can be any type including homes, businesses, and seasonal properties. We're here to help!

Albertans can count on the RCMP to continue to be fully committed to the safety and security of our province during COVID-19 and this includes adapting our Crime Prevention strategies.

Here are some questions to consider while spending more time at home:

  • Is your yard adequately lit?
  • Do you have clear sightlines in your yard?
  • Is it obvious when you're not home?
  • Do you have a fence or natural barrier around the property?
  • Are bushes trimmed under windows?
  • Do you have a gate?
  • Is your garage secure?
  • Which way do your doors open?
  • Do your windows have locks?

We know these tips may sound silly or simple, but CPTED has proven its value all over the world. CPTED is an international concept that has proven to discourage crime and promote security. For more tips and crime prevention information, follow #HereToHelp and our social media accounts on Twitter (@RCMPAlberta), Facebook (@RCMPinAlberta) and YouTube (@RCMP-GRC Alberta).

RCMP encourage the public to report any criminal or suspicious activity to police. Reports tell us where to look, who to look for, and where to patrol in the future. If you see a crime in progress, dial 911. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the "P3 Tips" app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
