AB RCMP Major Crimes to investigate suspicious death near Spirit River – Update #2

Spirit River, Alta. – The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit's investigation into the June 11, 2020, homicide of 19-year-old Kyler Dean Commandeur of Clairmont, Alta., has resulted in a number of arrests and charges. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit would like to thank the public for the dash cam footage that was received early in this investigation as that assisted in furthering their investigation.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit would like to acknowledge the many units, Detachments, and outside agencies that provided valuable assistance throughout this investigation: Spirit River, Beaverlodge, Grande Prairie, Yorkton, and Prince Albert RCMP Detachments; Grande Prairie Forensic Identification Section; Grande Prairie General Investigation Section; the RCMP Forensic Laboratory; the RCMP Interview Assistance Team; Quebec RCMP Truth Verification Section; RCMP Technical Crimes; the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner; and the Saskatchewan Federal Penitentiary.

"The mobilization of various RCMP support units, along with the help of outside agencies, was paramount to the success of this investigation," says S/Sgt. Mark Sloan, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit. "Thanks to the efforts of all involved, the Alberta RCMP were able to charge five individuals in connection with this homicide."

On Sept. 24, 2020, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested Justin John Bishop (28) of Clairmont, and he is charged with:

  • First degree murder

Following a judicial hearing he was remanded into custody. His next scheduled appearance is in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Nov. 23, 2020.

On Sept. 25, 2020, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested Krista Marie Healey (34) of Grande Prairie, Alta., and she is charged with:

  • Accessory to murder after the fact.

Following a judicial hearing she was remanded into custody. She is next scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Nov. 25, 2020.

On Sept. 25, 2020, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested Melissa Aletha Healey (36) of Beaverlodge, Alta., and she is charged with:

  • Forcible confinement

Following a judicial hearing she was released and her next court appearance is scheduled for Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Nov. 16, 2020.

On Oct. 16, 2020, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested Cody Letourneau (25) of Grande Prairie, who turned himself into RCMP, and he is charged with:

  • First degree murder

Following a judicial hearing he was remanded into custody. He is next scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Nov. 16, 2020.

On Nov. 13, 2020, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested Simon De Lima (30) of Grande Prairie, in Saskatchewan and he is charged with:

  • First degree murder

Following a judicial hearing he was remanded into custody and is scheduled to attend court in Grande Prairie Provincial Court via CCTV on Dec. 2, 2020.

As this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be provided.

AB RCMP Major Crimes to investigate suspicious death near Spirit River – Update #1

On June 12, 2020, the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on the 19-year-old male victim from Clairmont, Alta. The autopsy determined that his manner of death was homicide. The name of the victim will not be released.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes continues to investigate this homicide and would like to thank the public for dash cam footage that was provided early in this investigation.

June 11, 2020

AB RCMP Major Crimes to investigate suspicious death near Spirit On June 11, 2020, at approximately 9 a.m., Spirit River RCMP received a call to assist Emergency Medical Services who had attended a call and located a deceased male at the roadside on Highway 677 west of Highway 2 near the Woking turn off.

Spirit River RCMP attended the scene and it was determined that the circumstances of the male's death were suspicious. AB RCMP Major Crimes have taken over carriage of this investigation and are on route to the scene. Spirit River RCMP have secured the scene.

Highway 677 west from Highway 2 has been closed to traffic. Traffic is being diverted and this is anticipated to continue for the remainder of today.

It is very early in this investigation and further details are not available. Further information will be released when available.
