Wynyard/Wadena/Punnichy RCMP: Arrests made in relation to robbery in Wynyard

On November 5, 2019, at approximately 12:15 p.m. (noon), Wynyard RCMP responded to a report of a robbery at a business on Bosworth Street in Wynyard, SK.

Initial investigation revealed that the three individuals involved, two adult males and one adult female, were at the business for approximately two hours before the incident. At some point, the female attempted to distract an employee of the business while one male attempted to gain entry to the cash registers.

The employee attempted to stop the male and suffered minor injuries during the incident.

When officers arrived, the suspects had left the scene in a vehicle.

A short time later, at approximately 1 p.m., in a coordinated effort, officers from Wynyard, Wadena and Punnichy RCMP located the vehicle of the suspects north of Kawacatoose First Nation. The four occupants of the vehicle were arrested and taken into custody. One of the occupants was later released without charges.

During a search of the vehicle, the stolen money was recovered, along with a quantity of alcohol and other stolen property unrelated to this incident.

43-year-old Darrel Kay of Wynyard, SK has been charged with the following in relation to this incident:

  • Robbery with Violence, Section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Assault with Intent, Section 344(1)(b) CC;
  • Disguise with Intent, Section 351(2) CC;
  • Mischief, Section 430 CC.

39-year-old Clinton Bird and 32-year-old Glenna Worm, both of George Gordon First Nation, have been charged with Robbery with Violence, Section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

All three will appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on Thursday, November 7, 2019.
