Valleyview RCMP seek public assistance to locate missing male *Update: Charges laid by Major Crimes Unit*

Two males have been arrested and charged in relation to the disappearance of a Sturgeon Lake man that was reported to police on the evening of June 16, 2019.

One 22-year-old male and one 39-year-old male, both of Sturgeon Lake have been charged with the following:

  • First Degree Murder of Barry Goodswimmer
  • Kidnapping
  • Assault with a weapon

Both Hamelin and Martineau have been remanded into custody for a court appearance on June 24, 2019 at Grande Prairie Provincial Court.

The investigation is ongoing and the body of Barry Goodswimmer has yet to be recovered. The investigation has been assisted by Valleyview RCMP Detachment, Grande Prairie RCMP Forensic Identification Services, Grande Prairie RCMP Police Dog Services, RCMP Air Services, and Search & Rescue Teams from Grande Prairie and Valleyview.

Valleyview RCMP are asking for the public's assistance in locating 51-year-old Barry Goodswimmer. Barry was reported missing from the Sturgeon Lake area and was last seen on June 16, 2019.

Barry is described as:

  • Indigenous male
  • 5'8" tall, 150 lbs.
  • Grey hair, brown eyes
  • Wearing a black hoody, dark jeans, and black running shoes
