Thirty-three-year-old Portland Creek woman sentenced for impaired driving causing bodily harm and possession for the purpose of trafficking

On November 26, 2019, 33-year-old Ashley Caines from Portland Creek attended Port Au Choix Provincial Court where she was convicted of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, impaired operation of a motor vehicle over 80 mg % causing bodily harm and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Ms. Caines was sentenced to nine months in jail, 18 months of probation and was issued a 24-month driving prohibition.

On August 7, 2018, Flower's Cove RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision involving injuries north of Port Saunders on Route 430. The driver, who was ejected from the vehicle, and the passenger, sustained injuries.

Further investigation by police determined the driver of the vehicle, Ashley Caines, was impaired by alcohol and had a significant amount of cocaine concealed on her person. She was subsequently charged with the offences listed above. She was also convicted under the Highway Traffic Act for operating an unregistered vehicle without insurance.
