Sudden death investigation in Happy Valley-Goose Bay

November 19, 2019
Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador

Statement

The RCMP in Happy Valley Goose Bay, along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, are being assisted by the RCMP Forensic Identification Section as they continue to investigate the death of a 23-year-old woman originally from Nain.

While police are aware of concerns regarding the cause of her death circulating on social media, the RCMP will continue, as a matter of practice and investigative protocol, to conduct a detailed and thorough investigation giving consideration to all available evidence. The original media release by police on Nov. 15 indicated the death was deemed not suspicious up to that point in the investigation based on a thorough scene examination by RCMP Forensic Identification Services and interviews with multiple witnesses. This remains consistent with evidence available at this time.

Should anyone in the community have information they believe is pertinent to the investigation, please contact Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP at 709-896-3383. The RCMP will provide an update once the investigation concludes.
