In line with Violence Prevention Week from October 21 to 25, 2019, 24 Saskatchewan RCMP officers will receive specialized training to better respond to, assess and investigate violence in relationship files.
The five-day course will provide extra training for officers in specific areas of relationship violence with a focus on the physical, emotional and sexual abuse experienced by victims.
Saskatchewan RCMP has invited municipal police agencies and provincial government partners to participate in the first two days of the course. Attendees will hear from a wide selection of guest speakers, in particular, from a domestic violence survivor, who will share her story, speak about her interactions with police and how the smallest of interactions can empower victims of domestic violence. The speaker series will feature experts speaking to topics such as strangulation, human trafficking, honour-based crimes and sexual violence in domestic relationships.
Saskatchewan RCMP will continue to work in collaboration with municipal police agencies and provincial government partners to seek solutions to the serious social issue of relationship violence. The Saskatchewan RCMP remains committed to the pursuit of a #ViolenceFreeSask.
