Rosthern RCMP – 25-year-old man charged with second degree murder

On July 6, 2019, at approximately 06:00 a.m., Rosthern RCMP responded to a complaint of a damaged vehicle found in a wooded area near Beardy's First Nation, SK, approximately 10 miles north of Rosthern.

Police officers found a green minivan with minor front end damage lodged in trees. They located a 25-year-old man in the driver seat and a 33-year-old woman in the passenger seat.

The female was pronounced deceased on scene by Rosthern Emergency Medical Services. The male had minor injuries.

Police officers observed inconsistencies between the injuries sustained by the occupants of the vehicle and the damage on the minivan.

Rosthern RCMP, RCMP Major Crime Unit South, Saskatoon RCMP Forensic Identification Section and Prince Albert RCMP Traffic Reconstruction attended the scene and furthered the investigation.

On July 7, 2019, Jamie Smallchild was charged with the second degree murder of Jessica Cameron, Section 235(1) of the Canadian Criminal Code.

Jamie Smallchild will first appear in court at the Saskatoon Provincial Court on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.

Jamie Smallchild and Jessica Cameron were known to be in a domestic relationship.
