RCMP take youth into custody following threat against Springdale High School

On the morning of Tuesday, December 17, RCMP responded to a report of a threat made against Indian River High School in Springdale. The source of the threat was quickly identified and a student of the school was taken into custody after a brief search of the community. At this time, no weapon is believed to have been involved in the threat.

While RCMP responded, Indian River High was in secure school mode, limiting the movement of students and staff within the school and locking all exterior doors. All students and staff were safe, with no immediate danger to them identified.

The investigation is continuing and the name of the youth involved is being withheld in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act. No other persons are believed to be involved and there is no further risk to the community or school at this time.

This was a multi-jurisdictional response, involving members from Springdale, Baie Verte, and Grand Falls-Windsor Detachments, as well as a Police Dog Service unit from Stephenville.
