While conducting traffic enforcement in Bay Roberts during the noon hour on December 19, 2019, RCMP Traffic Services East attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver failed to stop and fled through the town at a high rate of speed.
In the interest of public safety, police did not pursue the vehicle. A short time later, the vehicle was located in a secluded area. The driver, an 18-year-old Upper Island Cove man, was arrested and charged with flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. His license was suspended and vehicle seized.
The RCMP is committed to ensuring public safety on our roadways. Police will continue heightened enforcement during the busy holiday season.
