Manitoba RCMP respond to two separate fatal snowmobile collisions over the weekend

Officers from the Churchill and Killarney RCMP Detachments each responded to separate snowmobile collisions over the weekend that claimed the lives of two Manitobans.

On November 30, 2019, just after 1:15 pm, Killarney RCMP responded to a report of a snowmobile collision near Orillia Street, located north-west of the community of Ninette.

A 28-year-old male, from the RM of Prairie Lakes, was travelling northbound on the side of the road when it appears he may have veered off and collided with a tree. The 28-year-old, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

On December 1, 2019, at 7:35 am, officers from the Churchill Detachment received a report of a snowmobile collision in a back lane located near Kelsey Boulevard.

A 20-year-old male, from Churchill, was travelling northbound down the back lane when his snowmobile collided with a south facing flat deck semi-trailer. The 20-year-old, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Both collisions remain under investigation.
