A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a series of incidents that occurred in the Moncton area overnight, including an altercation with police.

Between 11:15 p.m. on December 6 and 1:15 a.m. on December 7, 2019, members of the Codiac RCMP responded to two separate reports of robberies and a theft in the Mountain Road area.

At about 3:30 a.m., members responded to a call outside a business on Mountain Road, and located a vehicle parked there that matched the description of the one involved in the earlier incidents.

When police attempted to arrest the driver, he resisted and drove into several vehicles in the parking lot, including three RCMP vehicles. The man drove the car towards police officers, and a member of the RCMP discharged a firearm towards the suspect's vehicle, which then fled the scene.

Police followed the vehicle, which drove off the road near the intersection of Horsman Road and Berry Mills Road. The driver was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment of a minor gunshot injury. He was later released into police custody. No one else was seriously hurt.

On December 7, Joshua Thomas Rossiter was brought before a judge by telephone and charged with prohibited driving. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Moncton Provincial Court on December 10 at 1:30 p.m. He is expected to face additional charges in connection with the incidents.

The Codiac RCMP continues to investigate the robberies and theft. As a matter of standard practice in these types of serious incidents, an independent review will be conducted of police actions in response to the incident.
