La Loche RCMP - 6 males charged after shooting incident on Highway 155

On November 3, 2019, La Loche RCMP received the report of a shooting on Highway 155, approximately 15 kilometres south of La Loche, SK.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located a pickup truck with damage to the rear tires and five males hiding in the bushes. The males were transported to the La Loche detachment to be interviewed. They mentioned being chased along the highway by another vehicle and shot at from the same vehicle.

After weeks of investigation, and limited cooperation from the people involved, it is believed the five males traveled from Buffalo Narrows to La Loche to buy illegal drugs. There, they were involved in an altercation and ended up being pursued south on Highway 155, when shots were fired.

The five males from the Buffalo Narrows area have been charged in relation to this incident. Robert Kenney, Colin McPherson, Dawson Tyrell Laliberte Zachary Reed Montgrand and a youth who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act are each charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following:

  • Armed robbery,
  • Pointing a firearm,
  • Assault with a weapon,
  • Possession weapon for a dangerous purpose (x2),
  • Possession a firearm in a motor vehicle,
  • Unauthorized possession of a non-restricted firearm,
  • Possession of a firearm knowing that possession is unauthorized.

Also relating to this incident, George Edwin Fontaine from La Loche is charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following:

  • Trafficking cocaine,
  • Discharge firearm with intent (X5),
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm,
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle,
  • Breaches of Judges undertaking (X6).

All of the accused, with the exception of Dawson Tyrell Laliberte, are currently in police custody. The RCMP is seeking information from the public in order to locate Dawson Tyrell Laliberte and bring him before the courts.
