On December 5, 2019, the V Division Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit initiated an investigation related to the trafficking of cocaine in Iqaluit. With the assistance of the Iqaluit RCMP, the Iqaluit General Investigative Section and the V Division Major Crimes Unit, a search warrant was executed at a residence on December 11, 2019. During the search a large quantity of drugs, trafficking supplies and cash was located and seized. Based on evidence collected during the investigation Iqaluit resident, Jesse Crooks was arrested and has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, production of psilocybin, and two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. Crooks made his first appearance before a Justice of the peace and was remanded into custody until December 17, 2019 for the purpose of a bail hearing. The investigation is continuing.
