Grande Prairie, Alberta

News release

On Sept. 7, 2019 at approximately 1 a.m., Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a fatal two vehicle collision on Highway 40, near Township Road 692.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a pickup truck was travelling northbound, and a semi-truck was travelling southbound, when the collision occurred.

Tragically, the lone occupant of the pickup truck, a 42-year-old woman from Lethbridge, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the semi truck, a 32-year-old male from Grande Prairie, was transported by STARS Air Ambulance to the QE II hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Grande Prairie RCMP, along with an RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate. All possible contributing factors for this collision are being considered.

Highway 40 was blocked for several hours until a detour could be established. Emergency personnel are no longer on scene; however, clean-up crews remain. Detour to remain in effect for several more hours.

Our thoughts are with the families of both drivers at this time. The name of the deceased will not be released.

Another update will be provided once the Highway is clear and detours are no longer required.
