On Apr. 7, 2019, the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic/Crime Reduction Unit were conducting proactive patrols in the downtown area.
As a result of a traffic stop, members seized bear mace, brass knuckles, suspected methamphetamine and oxycontin. A safe was also located within the vehicle and a search warrant was executed. This resulted in the seizure of a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun with prohibited over-capacity magazines.
A 25-year-old male of Sherwood Park, Alta., was arrested and charged with 22 Criminal Code offences, some of which include:
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm
- Possession of a controlled substance contrary to the CDSA
Through the use of intelligence led enforcement, the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic/Crime Reduction Unit are committed to public safety and will continue to utilize crime reduction strategies to remove illegal firearms and drugs from our community.
