Flowers Cove RCMP lay charges on youth driving ATV on the highway

On October 13, 2019, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Flowers Cove RCMP attempted to stop ATVs operating recklessly om the highway near Savage Cove. The ATVs fled the area.

One of the ATV's was located a short time later along with the 13-year-old male driver of the ATV and two female passengers. He was arrested and criminal charges are pending for flight from police, operate on a highway while on ATV. His parents were also charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicle and ATV Act for allowing a person to operate ATV while under the legal age.

The ATV was seized and impounded at the owner's expense.

The RCMP reminds the public that operating an ATV on the highway is illegal (unless in a specifically designated area) and the minimum age limit for operating an adult-sized ATV (over 90 CC) is 16 years of age.
