EAD CRU RCMP make arrests in stolen vehicle investigation

On Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, the St. Paul RCMP Detachment received a report of suspicious activity in the area of Range Rd. 85 and Township Rd. 590 in St. Paul County. A member of the Eastern Alberta Rural Crime Reduction Unit was conducting patrols in the area and attended the scene to assist. Upon arriving at the location, the officer located one male and two females who were walking away from a white GMC pickup truck that had been left abandoned on the side of the road. Police record checks allowed for the member to determine that the vehicle had been stolen out of Mannville approximately one week earlier. The three suspects were subsequently arrested with the assistance from members from the St. Paul RCMP Detachment.

As the investigation unfolded, police were able to determine that two additional suspects were still at large. Additional reports of attempted vehicle thefts in the area also began to come in at that time. With the assistance from Cold Lake Police Dog Services and members from the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment, the two additional suspects were eventually arrested without further incident.

A 29-year-old male of Saddle Lake was charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Obstruction
  • Failing to comply with conditions of his undertaking (x3)
  • Theft under $5,000

He was also wanted on multiple outstanding arrest warrants.

He was held for a bail hearing where he was Remanded into Police custody. He is scheduled to attend St. Paul Court on Dec. 20, 2018.

A 38-year-old male of Saddle Lake was charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Mischief
  • Failing to comply with conditions of his undertaking (x2)
  • Failing to comply with conditions of his recognizance (x3)
  • Obstruction
  • Identity Fraud (x2)
  • Operating a motor vehicle without holding a valid driver's licence

He was also wanted on multiple outstanding arrest Warrants.

He was held for a bail hearing where he was remanded into police custody. He is scheduled to attend Bonnyville Court on Dec. 18, 2018.

A 22-year-old male of Saddle Lake was charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Failing to comply with conditions of his recognizance (x2)
  • Mischief

He was also wanted on multiple outstanding arrest warrants.

He was held for a bail hearing where he was remanded into police custody. He was scheduled to appear in St. Paul Court on Dec. 13, 2018.

A 28-year-old female from Saddle Lake was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000. The female cannot be named at this time as her charge has not yet been sworn by a Judge. The female is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Court on Feb. 14, 2019.

A 16-year-old youth from Saskatchewan, who cannot be named, was charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Obstruction
  • Identity Fraud
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Failing to comply with recognizance conditions

The Youth was held for a bail hearing where she was released to her parent on a no cash recognizance with conditions. She is scheduled to attend St. Paul Court on Dec. 20, 2018.

"The motivation and professionalism displayed by our Police Dog Service and from members from the St. Paul and Bonnyville Detachments was crucial in allowing us to get everyone responsible into custody."
