On September 12, 2019 at approximately 1 a.m., Coaldale RCMP along with Coaldale Fire Department/EMS responded to a single vehicle collision just north of the Coaldale industrial area.
A car with two occupants travelling at a high speed on 11th street entered a field when the road ended. The car, an older dark blue BMW, entered the field of summer fallow. Once in the field the car flipped and came to rest on the passenger's side. The rollover ignited the car, which burnt significantly. Both occupants were found outside the car.
A 25-year-old male occupant from Lethbridge was pronounced deceased at the scene suffering from severe burns. A 20-year-old female occupant suffered serious injuries and was transported to the Chinook Regional hospital in Lethbridge and then to a Calgary hospital. Her condition was reported as serious but not life threatening.
Coaldale RCMP with assistance of a Lethbridge based RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate. All possible contributing factors related to this collision are being considered as it remains under investigation. Weather and road conditions have been ruled out as not contributing factors.
