CAD CRU RCMP & RCMP Air Services combine efforts in stolen property investigation

An adult male and a female youth are facing several Criminal Code charges after a collaborative effort between several RCMP units recovered a stolen truck and concluded eight outstanding property crime investigations on Tuesday.

On Feb. 12, 2019, CAD CRU members conducted covert surveillance on a stolen vehicle that was observed in the Leduc city limits. RCMP Air Services and Police Dog Services were also deployed to assist. RCMP Air Services was able to relay the location of the vehicle to CAD CRU units on the ground despite the stolen vehicle being driven in an erratic manner.

CAD CRU members were able to successfully deploy a tire deflation device and the stolen vehicle came to a stop a short time later. Both occupants fled the vehicle on foot. With the assistance of Police Dog Services, the pair were tracked and arrested hiding in an outbuilding on a rural property.

A 25-year-old male of Leduc is facing 21 Criminal Code charges including:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Break and enter
  • Obstruct peace officer

He was remanded into custody for a court appearance on Feb. 14, 2019 in Leduc.

A 16-year-old female who cannot be named under provisions of the YCJA was charged with 16 Criminal Code charges including:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Break and enter
  • Assault peace officer

"Investigations such as this demonstrate the great teamwork between several police units that ensured the arrests of those responsible for criminal acts throughout central Alberta," said Sgt. Scott Lande, NCO i/c of CAD CRU.

As these matters are now before the courts no further information will be provided.
