News release

During the early morning hours of December 5, 2019, an officer on patrol in the community of Burin observed a vehicle operating erratically in the parking lot of Pearce Junior High School. When the officer pulled into the parking lot to investigate further, the driver fled into the woods.

The driver, a 19-year-old man from Brookside, was arrested and transported to Marystown Detachment where he provided breath samples that were over the legal limit.

The man, who has an outstanding impaired charge currently before the Court, is now facing additional charges of impaired driving and several offences under the Highway Traffic Act. He was also issued a driving suspension and the car involved was seized and impounded.

The man has been released from custody to attend court at a later date. The investigation is continuing.

This is the fifth impaired driver that police on the Burin Peninsula have caught in the last 12 days.
