Burin Peninsula RCMP catches fourth impaired driver in a week

the late afternoon on December 1, 2019, an off-duty RCMP officer happened upon a minor single-vehicle collision on Route 210 just north of Marystown and detected the driver was showing signs of impairment. The information was relayed to the detachment and an officer attended the scene.

The 59-year-old man from Marystown provided a breath sample into an approved roadside alcohol screening device, resulting in a fail. He was arrested and transported to Marystown Detachment where he complied with a breath demand, providing samples nearly twice the legal limit.

man is now facing charges of impaired driving. He was also issued a driving suspension and the car involved was seized and impounded. He has been released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.

The investigation is continuing.
