Bay St. George RCMP removes impaired drivers from the road

At approximately 10:45 p.m. on December 6, 2019, Bay St. George RCMP responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident on Front Road in Port au Port.

The driver, a 40-year-old man from Lourdes, provided a breath sample into a roadside alcohol screening device, resulting in a fail. The man was arrested for impaired driving and transported to Bay St. George Detachment where he provided further breath samples over the legal limit.

The man was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.

At approximately 2:15 a.m. on December 7, 2019, Bay St. George RCMP responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver on Main Street in Stephenville.

A traffic stop was initiated and the driver, a 33-year-old man from Fort McMurray, provided a breath sample into a roadside alcohol screening device, resulting in a fail. The man was arrested and transported to Bay St. George Detachment where he provided further breath samples nearly twice the legal limit.

The man's licence was suspended and his vehicle seized. He was also charged with unauthorized possession of brass knuckles, a prohibited weapon.

He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
