Alberta RCMP member charged after investigation

Cst. Licio Soares,"K" Division Federal Policing, has been charged following an Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) investigation.

On Sep. 19, 2017, an altercation occurred in the Slave Lake Detachment cells, which resulted in Cst. Soares charging one detained male with assaulting a police officer. The matter was set for court, when defence counsel brought forward concerns about the amount of force used during the original arrest and booking. On Dec. 14, 2017, the charges against the accused male were stayed by the Crown.

After an ASIRT investigation, Cst. Licio Soares (34) has been charged with one count of assault and released on a Promise to Appear. There is no change to Cst. Soares's duty status. Cst. Soares has been with the Force for seven years.
