Two impaired drivers arrested in Pictou County

Pictou County RCMP arrested two impaired drivers between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, this past weekend.

On Saturday, Sept 22, shortly before midnight, members of Pictou County RCMP stopped a vehicle that was travelling at 167 km/hr on Hwy. 104 in Pine Tree. The police officer noted signs of impairment and the driver was taken to the detachment for a breath test. As a result, he is facing charges of Stunting, Impaired Driving, and Driving with a BAC over 100 mg%. The driver, a 41-year-old man from Antigonish also had his driver's licence suspended and his vehicle seized. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec 17 on the charges.

On Sunday, September 23, just after 6:30 p.m., Pictou County RCMP responded to a called of a two-vehicle collision in Sutherlands River. One vehicle was crossing Hwy. 4 on Shore Rd. and struck a vehicle that was already on the highway. Upon arrival at the scene, police arrested a 29-year-old man for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The driver was taken to the detachment for a breath test which he refused. The 29-year-old man from Stellarton is scheduled to appear in court on Nov 19 on charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Refusal to provide Breath Samples, and charges under the Provincial Motor Vehicle Act for offences related to the collision. No one was injured.

Both investigations are ongoing.
