La Loche RCMP – Assault on Peace Officers/Uttering Threats

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 18th, La Loche RCMP members conducting patrols in the community encountered a group of people consuming alcohol on a public roadway. Members requested the alcohol be poured out. Everyone complied except one adult male who refused to cooperate. Two RCMP members attempted to take him into custody. The suspect resisted and the two members were assaulted in the process. One of the members deployed a conducted energy weapon (CEW) on the suspect. With assistance from additional members who responded to the scene, he was then taken into custody.

The suspect suffered minor injuries and was provided with medical treatment.

Two RCMP members suffered minor injuries and also required medical attention.

34-year-old Ramsey Herman (1984-01-29)of La Loche has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Assault on a Peace Officer (x2) – sec. 270(2) CC
  • Resisting arrest – sec. 175(1) CC
  • Uttering threats – sec. 129(a) CC
  • Causing a disturbance – sec. 264.1(1)(a) CC

Herman was remanded into custody and appeared in court in La Loche this morning and is scheduled to return to court on Thursday, August 23.
