National Police Week

National Police Week began in 1970 as a way for police to connect with their communities and increase awareness about the services they provide. Whether it's off the waters on the East Coast, inside an RCMP Operational Communications Centre, delivering hockey equipment or toys to youth in northern Canada, or doing impaired driving checkstops on roads across Canada, RCMP employees play various roles to serve Canadians. Community policing is at the heart of Police Week, as it's an opportunity for police and community members to get to know each other.

It's National Police Week! This year's theme is "Connected to our Communities." Everyday, RCMP officers and civilian employees work hard to make the communities they serve safer, stronger and better.

This week is a time to recognize the people – from the police officers on frontlines to the clerks at the front counters – interacting with Canadians on a daily basis.

RCMP employees are committed to keeping Canadians safe by working in partnership with their communities to prevent and solve crime. Many also give back to their communities by volunteering, coaching, and mentoring in schools, on sports teams, or taking part in charitable activities.

Every day, I see and hear about our employees who face the unexpected with pride and commitment. I can't say enough how much I appreciate all that they do.

Commissioner
