Riders and horses

The Musical Ride is made up of a troop of up to 32 riders and horses, plus the officer in charge. Our riders are all police officers from across Canada. Each needs to serve at least 2 years before applying to join the Ride. Following equitation training, postings with the Ride last 3 tour years.

Each winter, we pair up the riders and horses and they stay together for the year. This helps them develop a close bond while touring and preforming from coast-to-coast-to-coast.

Riders also act as ambassadors for Canada, the RCMP, and our community policing efforts by:

• answering questions before and after performances
• posing for photos and participating in media interviews
• promoting a career in policing
• making community visits to long-term care homes, schools and local RCMP detachments

This helps us strengthen our connection to the communities we serve and fill Canadians with pride.
