Defensive Tactics Instructors Course

Description

  • 10 days
  • Maximum 12 candidates

Objectives

  • The purpose of this course is to train candidates as Instructors in the use of Defensive Tactics that can be passed on to other personnel. The RCMP's Incident Management Intervention Model is used as a guide to assist the candidate in selecting the most appropriate option available in responding to a given behaviour. The legal parameters of the use of force are explored. The candidate will be introduced to the importance of “legal articulation” and will practice this during practical scenarios. The mechanics of a variety of defensive tactics will be reviewed and practised. The skill level of the candidate will be evaluated on the last day of the course. This does not prepare the candidate to teach any particular course, rather, the candidate could be called upon to instruct/refresh/update other personnel in these tactics.
