Gloves

GloveGloves, in some form or another, have been a staple of the uniform since the beginning of the Force, but the gloves have changed frequently. Originally, in 1886-1887, white gauntlets were worn by all, but in 1887, these were designated for full dress only.

On January 1, 1901, the white gauntlets were discontinued entirely and brown leather gauntlets were substituted for mounted duties, brown leather gloves for dismounted duties. By 1933, both fur and leather gauntlets were abolished for officers although brown leather and buckskin gloves continued in use. Only the Musical Ride continued to use tanned-leather gauntlets and in March 1962 they were formally added to the kit for members of the Ride.
