Aboriginal Justice

Traditional criminal justice and policing responses are recognized as not meeting all the needs of aboriginal peoples. We are working to ensure inclusion in the justice system for all aboriginal people through responses that are more culturally appropriate. Working in partnership with communities enables us to focus on crime prevention through social development. The Commanding Officer's Aboriginal Advisory Committee meets three times a year and serves as a link to the aboriginal communities in Saskatchewan to which we provide service. This committee works to develop improved communications and resolve issues.

Trust and Confidence in the Justice System

To promote public trust and confidence in its services, the RCMP responds to all public complaints of actual or perceived misconduct by RCMP employees. This is done by attempting to satisfy the complainant and demonstrating accountability to the public, while simultaneously respecting the rights of our employees. All complaints are responded to in a transparent and timely manner.

Crime reported to the police continues to be a concern for Saskatchewan residents due to increasing crime rates in recent years. Being fearful restricts our lifestyle, especially those who feel most vulnerable, including the elderly, young urban females, and disabled people. We are continuing to implement the community policing approach, including restorative justice, crime prevention and other strategies.

Effective Crime Prevention

Using the community policing approach we work in partnership with the communities we serve to prevent and solve local crime and disorder problems. Working with local community and neighbourhood organizations, religious organizations, local businesses, the voluntary sector, local governments, concerned citizens, and social agencies, the strategies we implement focus on restorative justice and crime prevention.
