RCMP Police Aptitude Battery (RPAB)

RCMP police officer is accepting completed RCMP Police Aptitude Battery (RPAB) test papers from an applicant.

The RCMP Police Aptitude Battery (RPAB) is made up of two separate tests that all Regular Member applicants must complete as part of the Recruiting process.

The first test is the RCMP Police Aptitude Test (RPAT). It is a multiple choice test (114 questions), designed to evaluate your aptitude to be a police officer.

The RPAT measures seven skills that are essential in completing the duties of a police officer:

  • Composition (spelling, grammar and vocabulary);
  • Comprehension;
  • Memory;
  • Judgment;
  • Observation;
  • Logic; and
  • Computation.

The second component of the RPAB is the Six Factor Personality Questionnaire (SFPQ). The SFPQ has 108 statements where you are asked to agree or disagree. The questionnaire measures an applicants' conscientiousness, a concept not measured by the RPAT.

You will receive a letter confirming your test scores. The pass mark for the RPAT is 3.2/5.0. Applicants who pass the RPAT will be placed on an eligibility list in a rank ordered fashion. Those with the best scores will be selected to advance to the next step of the recruiting process. If you are unsuccessful at the exam, you will be required to wait 365 days before re-applying.

FAQs

I'm an ex-applicant. What do I need to do to be reinserted into the application process?
To be eligible for reinsertion, you must have successfully written the RCMP Police Aptitude Test (RPAT) and the Six Factor Personality Questionnaire (SFPQ) within the past five calendar years and a full 12 months must have passed since the date of decision of non-suitability.

Once you request to be re-inserted, your previous file will be reviewed. The considerations include, but are not limited to:

  • the reason for your previous rejection and the date it occurred;
  • the severity and number of issues;
  • your previous selection RPAT score in relation to the current selection RPAT scores; and
  • the applicant’s overall documented performance.

If you are not recommended for reinsertion, you may choose to rewrite the RPAT and begin the application process again.
