1.0 Introduction

Forensic Identification Services Chemical Carcinogenicity Evaluation

Cantox Health Sciences International (Cantox) was contracted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Forensic Identification Services (FIS) division to evaluate and report on the potential carcinogenic characteristics of 66 chemicals that are used by FIS personnel. Due to the frequent daily use of some of these chemicals in the laboratory, it was deemed prudent by the FIS division to examine whether these chemicals could potentially be hazardous to its workers.

The list of chemicals considered for assessment, and their history and frequency of use by members of the FIS division is presented in Table 1.
