Prince Edward Island is situated between the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the Northumberland Strait. The Island coastline consists of a combination of long beaches, dunes, salt water marshes and numerous bays and harbours. This makes it a target for smugglers of drugs, alcohol, tobacco and other contraband. The Coastal / Airport Watch Program is the RCMP's national program for identifying persons and aircraft involved in the transport of contraband or breaching national security. The program is designed to involve the community by encouraging them to report suspicious activity on our coastline, airways and highways. Tips from the public are essential to the programs success and contributes to keeping our communities safe.
