RCMP Seize Pirated DVD’s

(London, Ontario - Friday, March 19th, 2010) - On Wednesday, March 17th, 2010 as a result of a tip received from the general public, members of the London RCMP Detachment seized over one thousand pirated DVD’s from space rented from a local specialty grocery store.

London DVDThe pirated DVD’s included films not yet released to video such as “The Hurt Locker” and “Crazy Heart” as well as children’s movies, television series and documentaries. No charges have been laid yet and the investigation is ongoing.

“The RCMP appreciates information from the public and we encourage you to contact police or Crime Stoppers should these types of activities and merchandise be encountered”, stated Inspector Dwight Blok, Officer in Charge of the RCMP London Detachment. It is an infringement of the Copyright Act for any person to knowingly sell, rent or distribute a copy of work without the owners consent

Anyone with information regarding the sale and /or manufacturing of copyrighted merchandise is asked to contact the RCMP at 1-800-387-0020 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
